The Process Of Art...

Background: Me and one of my cousins that lives in Texas around November of last year decided that we were going to make each others Christmas presents and send them to each other. So began the never ending journey that dragged on for months...

First: Inspiration... I had no idea what to draw for her because the ideas she gave me consisted of colors and patterns. Not much to work off of right? I stumbled upon the very strange daisy-esque flower and decided it would serve as my inspiration for the piece.

Second: Pencil drawing......... I have no documentation of this point of the process. My bad.

Third: Pen and Ink work + Beginnings of Marker... I drew over the pencil drawing with pen and ink which is the longest part of the whole process. I basically have to re-draw the whole piece and add hatching and cross hatching on top of that.

Fourth: Coloring of the Petals with Marker... I jumped into this part with no idea what I was going to do. I just layered and layered the colors on there until I was satisfied with the end product.

Fifth: Coloring is complete... I finished all of the color on the flower. This is the point where I got majorly stuck. I had no idea what I wanted to do with the background what so ever. I tossed around multiple ideas with my artist friends and even my mother. I had gotten to the point where I was tired of it so I stopped working on it and hoped inspiration would strike me out in the world.

Sixth: ..... Three months roll by. Do the math that would mean it's March which you all should know is well past Christmas. I had to begin to work on some kind of idea for the background because my cousin would be out here for a couple of days in April for my sisters wedding. (Wedding Post to come soon!) I came up with a kind of surrealistic take on something old fashioned. Take a look.

Seventh and FINAL Step: I needed to just finish up the layers for the background which involved ink/stamp pads and many other things. Needless to say I had it finished for my cousin when she arrived here this month. She loved it and I had also framed it in a simple black frame for her so she could hang it in her room when she returned to Texas. Here is the final result.

I hope you enjoyed a sneak peek into my process. I also hope you like the completed piece, and please do not steal any of my images I worked countless hours on this piece of art and I would like to keep the images on my blog. Please ask if you would like to use them in any way and I will see what I can do for you.

Where do you live?

"I live in the clouds. Reality is not for me. People say I should come down. That the clouds are not a place for grownups to be. I smile at them. Maybe one day, I say maybe one day I will come down. But I never will. Reality is not for me. I shall stay up here The view is quite breathtaking."
Tell me this. Where do you live?
